He was born on Aug. 15, 1929, in New London, the youngest son of the late Vito and Catherine Tranchida. He attended school in New London.
Dominic married Carmella Perrone on June 21, 1952, at St Mary's Church.
He served in the CT State Guard and then the U.S. Army stationed in Alaska, from where he was honorably discharged. He then served as a police officer in the New London Police Dept. for 20 years. He also worked at the Groton Submarine Base Fire Dept. for 22 years, where he retired as a captain. During that time period, he also worked as a longshoreman at New London State Pier.
Dominic enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and friends, and was a radio controlled airplane enthusiast and a member of R/C Propbusters.
He was a loving and caring father and grandfather, always there for anyone who needed him and will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.
He was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Carmella; his son, Edward; and two brothers, Joseph and Marco.
He is survived by his son, Dominic and his wife, Karen; his daughter, Marjorie Dahl and her husband, Thomas; grandchildren, Stacey Dahl, Kristen Mangual and her husband, Frank; also by his great-grandchildren, Jacob and Alexis Mangual. He is also survived by his devoted companion of 11 years, Patricia Ryan; his brothers, Paul, Thomas, and Bartolo; and his sisters, Rose Fazzina and Josephine Bruno.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, June 2, at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London. The funeral will assemble at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June 3, at the funeral home, and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St Joseph's Church, Squire St. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery with military honors.
