SOUND LEVEL RECORDING PROCEDURE

RECORDING SOUND LEVELS TO BE ACCOMPLISHED ACCORDING TO COMPETITION REGULATIONS 94‑95 EDITION PAGE 64 PARAGRAPH 4.2 NOISE LIMIT AND PAGE 156 SOUND ADDENDUM.  MAXIMUM NOISE LEVEL SET AT 96 DECIBELS (CONTEST LEVEL)

 

STANDARD PROCEDURES:

 

1.        MODEL TO BE PLACED ON THE GROUND.

2.        ALL MEASUREMENTS TO BE TAKEN WITH THE MOTOR RUNNING AT FULL POWER.

3.        THE PERSON RESTRAINING THE MODEL SHOULD DO SO BY HOLDING THE MODEL BY THE REAR OF THE AIRCRAFT.

4.        READINGS SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN WHEN OTHER LOUD SOUNDS ARE PRESENT INCLUDES THE RUNNING UP OF OTHER AIRCRAFT).

5.        THE PERSON WITH THE TRANSMITTER SHOULD BE WELL AWAY FROM THE AIRCRAFT.

6.        PERSONS NOT INVOLVED WITH THE LEVEL READINGS SHOULD BE WELL AWAY FROM THE AIRCRAFT, UNDER TEST.

7.        SET THE METER ON A TRIPOD 12" ABOVE THE GROUND.

8.        ALL READINGS ARE TO BE TAKEN DOWNWIND OF THE MODEL.

9.        METER SHOULD BE SET ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE, NINE FEET FROM THE CENTERLINE OF THE MODEL AT A 70° ANGLE WITH A SLIGHT UPWARD ANGLE. [SEE DIAGRAM HERE]

10.  SET THE METER TO THE ‘A’ POSITION, CHECK BOTH FAST AND SLOW RESPONSES.

11.  A WIND SCREEN SHOULD BE USED ON THE METER TO CUT DOWN ON WIND PRESSURE.

RECORD ALL READINGS IN SOUND LEVEL LOG BOOK.
