·                          NO SMOKING ON THE FLIGHT LINE OR IN THE PITS.  IF YOU MUST SMOKE, STAY OUT OF THE PITS AND POLICE YOUR BUTTS.  IT IS NOT APPRECIATED BY THOSE MEMBERS WHO HAVE TO PICK UP AFTER YOU.

·                          IF YOU ARE FLYING GAS ENGINES, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A FIRE EXTINGUISHER NEXT TO YOU.  THIS IS AN AMA REGULATION AND MUST BE OBSERVED BY ALL MEMBERS AND GUESTS.

·                          DON’T FLY TOO FAR TO THE WEST END OF THE FIELD WHERE THE NEW HOUSING IS BEING BUILT.  THIS IS A GOOD POLICY TO ASSURE WE ARE GOOD NEIGHBORS.

·                          PICK UP BROKEN PROPS AND ALL PIECES FROM THE FIELD, PROPS ESPECIALLY RAISE HAVOC WITH THE MOWERS.

·                          TAKE EVERYTHING YOU BRING TO THE FIELD HOME WITH YOU, THAT MEANS COKE CANS, PAPER BAGS, STYROFOAM CUPS, ETC.  WE DO NOT MAINTAIN TRASH CANS AT THE FIELD SO PLEASE ABIDE BY THIS REQUEST.

·                          PLEASE LIFT THE GATE TOWARD THE FLYING FIELD WHEN YOU OPEN IT, OTHERWISE WE WILL BE REPLACING IT TOO SOON.

·                          THE PORT-A-POTTY DOOR MUST BE LATCHED CLOSED AFTER USE TO BE SURE IT IS NOT BLOWN OFF DURING A HIGH WIND.  IF THE DOOR IS BLOWN OPEN THE UNIT IS EASILY BLOWN OVER AND YOU CAN IMAGINE THE MESS THAT RESULTS.

·                          WE HAVE AN EXCELLENT PORT-A-POTTY SERVICE COMPANY THIS YEAR SO PLEASE USE IT.  THE SMELL OF URINE AFTER A RAIN BECAUSE OF TOO MANY MEMBERS HEEDING THE CALL OF NATURE OUTSIDE OF THE PORT-A-POTTY IS EASILY ELIMINATED BY USING THE UNIT.

·                          WITH THE EXCEPTION OF ELECTRICS, PLEASE KEEP YOUR HELICOPTERS AND AIRPLANES OFF THE PICNIC TABLES BECAUSE SPILLED FUEL IS NOT GOOD FOR THE DIGESTION.  USE THE BENCHES, SPOOLS, AND TABLES PROVIDED,

Salem Flying Field Flight Guidelines

As you are all aware, we have to be considerate of our new neighbors to the west.  14 new home are in the process of being built or are already occupied.  We have learned that two of the new owners are Pilots and the potential for a third is possible.  This is great news as they will have an appreciation for our hsport and may also be interested in joining our club.  More on this as the season progresses and we actually invite them to come to our neighborhood fun fly.

We are asking all of you to observe a few guidllines.

·        We must observe a 96dB noise level.  If your motor is too loud, you must change the prop to a larger size or improve your muffler.  Another item that can be used is shock mounting your motor.

·        You do not have to fly with full power except when in a climbing attitude.  Use your throttle and if you are just flying around, not doing aerobatics, ½ throttle is normally more than enough power.

·        Do not fly too far to the west end of the field.  Do not go beyond ½ the distance between the end of our filed and the closest home to the west of our field.  See diagram below.

WE HAVE PLENTY OF ROOM TO FLY, SO STAY IN CONTROL AND KEEP THE MODEL AND NOISE UNDER CONTROL.  IF WE FOLLOW IN THESE GUIDELINES WE’LL BE FLYING AT SALEM FOR MANY YEARS TO COME.

Members,

Please remember to mail in your renewal application for next year with your dues before the end of February.  Even if you are a junior you still need to send in your application with a photocopy of your AMA license or come to a club meeting.  Please do this before the February meeting to continue both your membership and receiving the newsletter.

The Club newsletter is now available via the internet.  This should prove to be easier to read.  If you are not now receiving it by E-mail and would like to in the future simply E-mail me or call me at 860-445-7604
